Elephant in the Room
Change to Addressing the Unseen Crisis
In today's society, discussions around mental health and trauma-informed care are prevalent, but we often overlook the critical issue of problematic alcohol and drug use—the "elephant in the room." This sensitive topic particularly affects Indigenous communities and remains largely unaddressed.
Generational trauma and related mental health challenges impact all cultural groups, severely affecting families and communities. Despite various interventions and educational efforts, the addiction crisis persists, resulting in limited and short-lived success. To create meaningful and sustainable solutions, we must confront this issue directly.
